you work out one percent of 拢40


So 拢40 is 4000pence, one percent of 4000 is 40


So 40pence is one percent of 拢40


Then you figure out howm any 40p are in 拢8


which is 20


Therefore, 拢8 is 20% of 拢40








You could also do 40 divided by 8 is 5


Therefore it is one fifth which is 20%
Well to put it 'simply' you could just change it into pence (4000 and 800)


You take the larger number and divide it by 100 (because 100% is a whole). Then divide the smaller number by the result and you have your answer, in percent. As long as your decent in mental maths, the you should be fine.
